CONTENT MARKETING SPECIALIST
What do you do at Valve+Meter?
I’m a writer, editor and content manager for Valve+Meter. I use my word-nerd superpowers to shape messaging that reflects a clients’ brand and helps them reach new customers. I primarily craft blogs and website content for clients. It’s fun – and I’m always looking for new, exciting and unique ways to write them so they have a distinct touch that connects with readers.
I also edit, which I really enjoy, because it allows me to take a piece of content and make it more focused and understandable than when I first opened it.
Tell us about your background and experience
Writing is in my blood. My father and uncle were longtime newspaper journalists, and I caught the bug at a young age. I worked in newsrooms throughout high school and college before embarking on a 12-year career as a reporter – covering everything from sports, public safety, government, business and schools for newspapers across the Midwest. I eventually transitioned to a content marketing role for internet home services company, Angie’s List, where I learned how to use SEO to help articles rank high on Google searches and answer readers’ questions. I’ve also worked in public relations and corporate communications for large North American companies.
What is it about you that makes you uniquely positioned to excel in your role?
I have more than 20 years’ experience writing copy – it’s all I’ve ever done! In past roles, I had the privilege of writing about a number of topics, including news and home improvement. I’m just as comfortable covering a school board meeting as I am researching an article on water heater maintenance. This flexibility makes me uniquely fitted for the content marketing role at Valve+Meter, where I write about a variety of topics.
I relish the challenge of using the written word to pique someone’s interest in a company. I also enjoy digging deep to learn about a topic – whether it’s on HVAC maintenance, dishwasher repair or restaurant safety tips – and finding useful information to convey to readers. My goal is to turn a difficult or confusing topic and convert it into an easy-to-read blog or article. Having trouble finding the right words to describe your company’s brand and vision? I’d like to help.
What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of work?
When I’m not working, I like to stay busy. One of my favorite activities is volunteering at organizations and charities in the area and teaching my kids the importance of helping others.
My favorite hobby is spending time with my two daughters, Addison and Aliyah, who are growing up way faster than I’d like! We enjoy visiting museums, the zoo and nature parks. I’m also an avid sports fan – go Cubs, Notre Dame and IU! – and like traveling, movies and working out.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what is the first thing you would spend money on?
The very first thing – dinner at the best steakhouse in town with my friends and family! Then it would be time to shop for a new car, invest the money wisely and save for the future.
